1. Medicare requires that the patient be homebound in
order for Medicare to pay for the services provided.
•What does the word “homebound” mean?
This means that due to your illness or injury it is a “taxing
effort” for you to leave home and assistance is required.
2.
Medicare requires that care be provided on an intermittent
basis.
•What does the phrase “intermittent
basis” mean?
This means that Medicare will not pay for our health care
staff to stay with you for an extended period of time. We
will visit you for the required length of time it takes to
provide the specific treatment ordered by your physician.
3. Medicare requires that the care provided is medically necessary.
•What does the phrase “medically
necessary” mean?
This means that your physician has ordered the services,
and that your physician certifies by his written signature
on the plan of care that the services are medically necessary.
If you are able to drive a vehicle, you probably do not meet
the homebound requirement.
